Hey LTT. IT seems like people who put these in the comments just wants to help everyone out. If you copy & pate it into the description it will put timestamps directly into the video. Is there a reason you don't do this/haven't been regularly doing this?

I grew up in rural Ireland with 6mb download and 0.30mb upload. It recently got bumped up to around 10-15mb down with 2-3mb upload. Fibre wasn't and still is not available there so Starling would be great if it provided better internet for cases like that.

  • JupitersTune

What is worrysome is Apple is dictating you on how you can charge other non apple users because you can't charge the same services to other non apple users a different price. AND! They have the power to delete your apps on your iphone, YOUR OWN DEVICE that you brought with your OWN MONEY.

  • RYG

Make a huge difference if you go hard diskless and use any cloud. Not so much as download speed though still slower such as download games and movies. Shaw only have max 25 up and their average plan or most popular is 300/16 up. Anything below that is I don't get why you get those, especially for the price. Telus 1/1 is great. Also I find Telus have less latency and shaw have more latency then my LTE phone, noticeable when playing racing games on phone. Or on console though less in this later case.

  • RYG
    RYG

The problem is cross-platform and stuff and that is when it becomes convoluted, this is where it is going and we all want. This will be a hard and very complex ruling if it comes to one. Is Apple at the Standard oil company level? No. Is Amazon albeit I think them as the good guy at AT&T level, no. Is there a better model, yes, but will be way more complex. One way I can see this going is having 2 Apple stores albeit monitored but one would inherently be less secure.

Removing Fortnite from their services isn't monopoly. They *removed* the product, which means that the monopoly is now on PC and consoles. Epic Games having the game *only on* their platform and ie. *not on* Steam.... well that is monopoly. Having multiple payment methods for in-game content, that is the real "issue" what is to concern. So.. In-game purhaced content is part of the game, which increases value of the game. And since you sell your game on their service 30% belongs to them. "Download this app for nothing" then you download it and puts you on payment window to buy the product skipping service fees.

As someone who's only able to geet "8"Mb down as the fastest speed in my area, and pays around $145/mo for it... I would love to have anything faster. And I put the 8 in quotes because I *rarely* get that max speed and it's constantly loosing connection.

I hear 30% cut over and over and over.....and i cant help but wonder if there is a parallel or tangent with EPIC looking to disrupt STEAM as well. Didn't EPIC rip steam off of "advertisement value" by being on their front page for weeks and then renege to launch their own platform?

I don’t think epic is going to win this case but I think it’s good that it’s happening. Epic needs Apple/google more Apple/google needs Fortnite. Don’t get me wrong it’s a super popular app but I don’t think it’s going to have a big impact on Apple/google in the grand scheme of things

Well, it looks like Epic is gonna win. They have Microsoft, Facebook and (in a way) Spotify on their side. The judge is currently more on Epic's side and is very annoyed by Apple's lawyer because he won't shut the hell up when she tells him to shut the hell up and he doesn't want to answer a simple question.

Dude you absolutely CANT compare the App Store with a freakin' payment method. Apple ha the payment method AND server costs, they advertise the app, they have to check them (for the consumer!) so that the don't install malware or what ever and so on. OF COURSE it's gonna be way more expensive than just 2.9% it whatever. Heck Fortnite doesn't has to pay a single cent for servers where people install the game from. That's all from Apple. Apple has by far the most secure App Store and the least amount of trash with way higher quality and that's for a reason. The reason are the rules that guide developers in the right direction. And I would take that ALL day over everything.

Apple would need to provide a mechanism for installation of apps outside of the app store, like the install from unknown sources switch in android. That would open up the same can of worms Android store alternatives have with malicious or fake apps being hosted on them. The alternative would be to allow developers the ability to host installable apps on their own websites independently The way windows developers can. (Windows have actually tried to push their app store but it goes against the established format for the pc software market) Can you imagine if Microsoft had started windows by not only locking Devs into using proprietary tools, but then also telling them they are only allowed to distribute their software after it is approved my microsoft and only through Microsoft store/ servers AND pay 30% for the privilege.

AT&T did the same for my family. My parents tried to change the plan when my dad got laid off and needed to move his company phone to the house plan. The sales person dropped down to a slightly slower, limited data plan based on "historical usage" but was only looking at one phone's usage (there were 2). We capped the data in about 2 weeks and went in to a different store. The rep we got found us a plan with unlimited data and the higher speeds, noticed the navy lapel pin on my dad's coat and asked for my dad's veteran's ID card for a discount, gave us a partial refund to make up the difference in plan cost for the past 3 months and removed the data overage charges due to the mistake of the other store's sales person. He also offered a free phone upgrade from iPhone 6 to 11, but my mom wasn't ready to "learn a new phone".

I remember when Autodesk Sketchbook Pro had a subscription model. The application was cross-platform (Android, iOS, Window, MacOS), but you only had to buy it once from the Autodesk website. If you used your account on all systems, you had access to all features, and I don't think any of the platforms received money from Autodesk. I'm just saying that in the past this was possible and allowed real cross-platform applications (including games) with payment options. So I think the step of Eipic is a very important one, because it gives the developers back the power over a substantial part of their products. As a developer I agree 100% and releasing on iOS is just hell. This is not something that is fundamentally easy and a joy. I just wonder if Epic wins here, in whatever form, what impact will it have on other ecosystems like the PlayStation?

I think Apple SHOULD charge for apps on the App Store as their strict control makes iPhones safer than Android and other devices. That takes time, resources and money. Is 30% too much? Maybe so, but is that what the market will bear? Is that what the competition charges (Google Play)? There is a reason Apple is ‘premier’ as well as more expensive. As a consumer and someone in the cyber security industry, I totally agree with their tight hardware and app controls as that benefits me.

Now, I do love Floatplane and I love it on my 32" 1440p monitor, and I love the content creators. But why for the love of anything-you-want-to-love would you ever want to watch it on a phone? And if you really want to for some reason, you can open a browser on your phone and watch it there, can't you? I can get the ease of use thing, but those people who use phones to watch movies? I'm pretty sure they can type floatplane.com?

I just don't see how a dual screen device like that can compete with a combo of a Pixel 4a (or similar) and a cheap small laptop, for that use case. It's more cost effective and each device is better suited for its purpose.

them taking 30% for not much... while those that have coded the app and continue to support sits with all the real expenses and work... that is super steep... 10% MAX
